Do You Smell That? (Dear Wednesday)

Updated: Aug 28, 2019

Our theme for August is: TAKE ACTION. What actions, even the smallest steps of improvement, are you taking now?

Dear Wednesday,

I felt the need to bring out a little of my inner nerd this week...

Over the weekend I was tasked with a homework assignment that required me to research air quality levels in a city of my choice. Naturally, being the "Un-Average" person that I am, I decided to choose a town somewhere across the ocean. My target, Kanpur, India, a bustling city filled with factories, motor vehicles, people and toxic air. Yes, the citizens of Kanpur basically breathe in poison every day.

I know this is a little deep for a Wednesday, but stick with me there is a message here.

After reporting the data, I began to think about you and me and all of the ways we ingest toxins every day that cause death in us. I am not referring to pollution but to the sub-consciences thoughts and opinions we take in. There may be someone out there right now telling them self how "dumb" they are.

Did you know, each time you belittle yourself you are killing a piece of your identity?

Or maybe lack of confidence is not your issue, maybe you struggle from what I like to call "everyone else is the problem" syndrome. The issue with this syndrome is that it kills the lessons that are intended to grow us. It strangles your ability to gain wisdom. Perhaps those fatal words are coming from outside sources like loved ones, social media or even advertising. The point is you have to be careful about what you’re breathing in.

It is possible that the people of Kanpur, India have been breathing in toxic air so long that they are used to it. This is what happens when toxic words and negative affirmations begin to build up in our system. You get used to it. The toxic thoughts become normal and you begin to manifest the things you have ingested.

But I am here to tell you that there is a cure, if you want it! That cure is TRUTH.

So now it is time for your action step…

Make a list: draw 3 columns.

1. At the top of the first column write "Negative Beliefs".

2. At the top of the second column write "How I Feel When I hear This Belief".

3. On the third column write "Counter Declaration". For the third column, you are going to write a word or sentence that combats the negative belief that you wrote in column number one.

Just as Scientists created measuring systems to read the pollutants in the air, this exercise is your measuring tool. List all negative thoughts, words, memories... that have affected you. Do not think too hard, just write. The point is to get to a place where you can clearly see the toxins and fight them with truth.

So take a deep breath and BEGIN!

Until next time, Be good to yourself and others!

Evaluate your relationships!

Check your thought life!

And, invest in opportunities that increase your quality of life.

DWL Lifestyle Strategists Weekly Favs

Ashley's fav is the sleek and dependable iPhone 7. She says: "Okay, I know that everyone loves their iPhone BUT I was an iPhone Virgin until this phone and my world has been rocked ever since. I can pay, record quality video, take good photos and measure things all with my phone and that barely scratches the surface. So, my favorite thing this week is my beautiful, Gold iPhone 7."

Joy loves healthy beverages and healthy packaging for those beverages. Her weekly fav is the Epica 18oz Glass Beverage Bottle, sold conveniently on amazon. Quit recycling all those plastic water bottles and invest in durable glass bottle that fits easily into car cupholders and lunch bags. MAKE THE SWITCH TODAY. Grab yours here. Totally some of the best money you'll save all year.

Patrice loves Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle Oil! She says: "The skin around my nails gets really dry from frequent hand washing throughout the day. My cuticles get to the point where they can tear due to the lack of moisture. This oil keeps the skin from peeling and cracking, particularly as we move into flu season with even more hand washing. Sooo important as we present our hands to new people we meet." Get yours here:
